Dinosaurs Had Thunderstorms

Dinosaurs had thunderstorms
A hundred million years ago.

I wonder, were they frightened,
The predatory ones at least,
With brain enough to hunt,
To kill, to feed, to mate,

Brain enough to raise their young?
(For mighty dinosaurs, as we have learned,
Cared for their young
And sheltered them from threats.)

The day of dinosaurs is gone;
But we remain, and thunderstorms,
And children full of fears,
Of needs, of curiosity.

What would I tell the children
If I were asked
Whether dinosaurs were scared
Of thunderstorms?

I’d guess yes; I’d also guess
They loved each other
In their way.
