Poet of The Small

By John I. Blair

I want to be a poet
Of the very small.

Nothing in this life
Should fail my glance.

The grapeskin’s bloom,
The seeds, the twining stem,

Each feather on the finch
That feeds at noon –

All these deserve
Intense inspection.

In detail I find sense,
Not chance.
